Getting to York

York has excellent road links to all regions of the UK. York by train is simple, excellent rail links bring you from London, Edinburgh, Manchester in less than 3 hours.

Manchester, Newcastle and Leeds/Bradford airports are within easy reach. The ferry ports of Hull and Newcastle are both within a two-hour drive.


By Road

Situated midway between Edinburgh and London, just 20 minutes from the M1/M62 motorway network, York is within comfortable travelling times of most regions in the UK.


By Air

York is in easy travelling distance of 3 international airports - Leeds/Bradford, Humberside and Manchester. From Manchester International Airport, frequent Arriva Transpennine trains provide the city with a direct round the clock link.


By Train

Getting to York by train is easy and great value too. From London the Journey time is approximately 2 hours; Edinburgh is only two and a half hours from York and there are direct services from Liverpool, Manchester and Birmingham. To plan and book a journey see www.railtrack.co.uk or purchase tickets direct from the rail operators; Great North Eastern Rail www.gner.co.uk and Virgin Trains www.virgintrains.co.uk. It is advisable to book your rail requirements in advance to obtain cheaper fares and to ensure a seat, especially if travelling from London.


By Sea

For European visitors, York is only one hour from the P&O Sea Ferries terminal at Kingston-upon-Hull with daily sailings to Holland and Belgium. Newcastle is two hours away with sailings to Holland, Norway and Sweden.

Getting around York and to the Conference Centre

The hotels are all located within the City centre and the most convenient way to get around the city is on foot. Coach transport will be provided each day to take participants from their hotels to the Symposium venue in the morning, returning them to the hotel in the evening.  
For participants not staying in the recommended Conference Hotels, a central pick-up point will be organised. Details to follow.

There are a number of taxi services in the centre of York including those at York Railway Station. The taxi fare from York to CSL is approximately £12 each way. For participants wishing to take a taxi from CSL to York the Conference Organisers will assist. Contact Carol Hill for further details.

The official language of the conference is English


Currency

The currency in the United Kingdom is Pounds sterling. A few shops and restaurants accept Euros.
